Punjab home dept issues threat alert

RAWALPINDI: The Punjab home department has warned of a serious threat from the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), specifically six militants who were trained abroad and could act anytime before the end of 2016.

The department instructed the province’s divisional police chiefs to heighten security at places of worship and hold regular search operation. The provincial authorities, citing intelligence, said police across the province were told in November than an attack by the TTP using six militants was likely to occur soon, and preparation for the attack and special training abroad had been completed.

The home department said an attack in Karachi or Quetta has been planned and a likely target was indicated. The modus operandi was forced entry into the target area.

A threat alert was also received on Dec 10, which indicated that militant groups have recruit young people to target major upcoming events, the authorities said.

They said after the threats were analysed a link was established between the threats, and the timeframe and dispatch of militants from Afghanistan for the intended mission was confirmed. http://www.dawn.com/news/1302630/punjab-home-dept-issues-threat-alert
