by JAMIL NAGRI in Dawn, April 25th, 2017

GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly through a resolution on Monday expressed confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The resolution presented by the deputy speaker praised PM Sharif for his role in providing constitutional rights to the people of the region. “This assembly appreciates Nawaz Sharif’s efforts for GB people’s betterment,” it said, adding that the prime minister’s steps for the development of the region showed his love for the people of GB.

The resolution said Mr Sharif’s leadership was a guarantee of strong federation and bright future for Pakistan. The GB government, under the leadership of PM Sharif, was a symbol of progress, it added.

Besides members of the ruling PML-N, two opposition lawmakers — Rehana Ebadi of Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) and Sikandar Ali of Islami Tehreek Pakistan (ITP) — supported the resolution. However, MWM’s Haji Rizwan and ITP’s Mohammad Shafi did not back it.

The opposition Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s Raja Jahanzab, Pakistan Peoples Party’s Imran Nadeem and Jamiat Ulma-i-Islam-Fazl’s Haji Shah Baig, who is opposition leader in the GBLA, did not attend the session.

After support by majority lawmakers, Speaker Fida Mohammad Nashad approved the resolution.
