iDeputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai has said the Afghan government believes Pakistan has not fulfilled commitments Islamabad pledged for the revival of direct peace talks with the Taliban group.

He was speaking during a summit organized in capital Kabul which focused on regional cooperation for peace and stability.

Karzai further added that the Afghan government was supposed to participate in direct peace talks with the Taliban group based on an a decision taken during the Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) meeting.

He said the Afghan government was optimistic regarding the proposed peace talks which was due to take place in the first week of March. “However, it seems Pakistan has not taken practical steps to implement its commitments,” Karzai added.

Karzai also added that the Afghan government is in constant and regular contact with the QCG partners, insisting that the countries working on Afghan peace process should take practical steps towards their commitments and that the decisions taken during the QCG meetings should be practically implemented.

The remarks by Karzai comes as the Taliban group rejected to participate in the proposed direct peace talks with the Afghan government and once again reiterated on its pre-conditions to sit-in for peace talks, saying ”unless the occupation of Afghanistan is ended, black lists eliminated and innocent prisoners freed, such futile misleading negotiations will not bear any results.”

The announcement by Taliban rejecting proposed talks came despite senior Pakistani officials admission of having influence on the Taliban group leaders based in the country.

Pakistan’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj Aziz earlier said his country could use certain leverages to encourage the Taliban group to participate in peace talks.http://www.khaama.com/karzai-doubts-pakistan-has-fulfilled-commitments-for-afghan-peace-talks-0471
