by Md Sanaul Islam Tipu in Dhaka Tribune, Oct 12, 2017
A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a defamation case.

Dhaka Metropolitan magistrate Nur Nabi passed the order on Thursday.

The court also asked police to submit update regarding the arrest on November 12.

Jananetri Parishad President AB Siddique filed the case with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court against slain BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and his wife Khaleda Zia on November 3, 2016.

After recording statement of the complainant, Metropolitan Magistrate Rayhan-Ul Islam directed officer-in-charge of Tejgaon police station to investigate the case.

In a report submitted on March 22, Tejgaon police station Officer-in-Charge Moshiur Rahman said the charges brought against them were found to be true.

The plaintiff complained that Ziaur Rahman grabbed the power through the revolution of November 7 after killing Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15 in 1975.

Ziaur Rahman marred the responsibilities of Liberation War despite being a freedom fighter.

AB Siddique also complained that Zia rehabilitated those who were hiding in Pakistan fearing trial after opposing our Liberation War.

When the Sheikh Hasina returned to Bangladesh on May 17 in 1981, Ziaur Rahman threatened and confined her.

In addition to that Khaleda assumed the post of prime minister by winning the election after forming an alliance with anti-liberation force like Jamaat-e Islami in 2001.

Khaleda handed down the flag of Bangladesh to the Razakars and al-Badars (collaborators) by making them ministers.
