Abid Ali Khan new AJK chief secretary: Dawn, October 18th, 2014

MUZAFFARABAD: The federal government has posted retired Squadron Leader Abid Ali Khan as the new chief secretary of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

Mr Khan, who was recently appointed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government as secretary sports and culture from his earlier assignment as commissioner Hazara division, has replaced Khizar Hayat Gondal, who was posted as AJK’s chief secretary in July last year.

He has now been posted as federal secretary. The AJK Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) will notify/endorse the transfer and posting of Mr Khan as AJK chief secretary on Monday, following which he will take over charge of this office from his predecessor, an S&GAD official told Dawn here.

It may be recalled that early this year the AJK government had locked horns with Mr Gondal and IGP Khuda Bakhash Awan, accusing the duo of trespassing their authority and creating a wedge between Muzaffarabad and Islamabad, after they had called out Rangers personnel to maintain law and order during a by-election to the AJK assembly.

The AJK government had also made desperate attempts to repatriate both officials, but to no avail, as the federal government had refused to withdraw them.

It may also be mentioned here that the new chief secretary Abid Ali Khan is not new to this region. Earlier, he served here as additional chief secretary from March 2011 to March 2013 following which he was transferred and posted in KP.http://www.dawn.com/news/1138776/abid-ali-khan-new-ajk-chief-secretary
