EC-JournalistSenior journalists on Wednesday asked the election commission to ensure participation of all political parties in the next 11th parliamentary elections to make it a credible one. Joining a dialogue organised by the commission at its secretariat in the capital, as part of its series of talks with different stakeholders ahead of the next general elections, the journalists also asked the commission to deploy military troops and introduce ‘no-vote’ provision.

QUETTA: The environmental protection tribunal of the Balochistan High Court has issued a notice to the Chinese company working on a proposed coal-fired power plant in Hub.
The notice was issued during the hearing of a petition filed by Mohammad Aslam Bhootani, a former speaker of the Balochistan Assembly.
Mr Bhootani has argued that the power plant — being constructed under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor at an estimated cost of $2 billion — would damage the environment and prove harmful for marine life and the human settlements along the coast of Gadani.

Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh militant Tariqul Islam Tareq was arrested in Chittagong in connection with a 2005 countrywide series bomb blast case.
A Chittagong court later sentenced him to five years in prison for the bomb attack.
He served the time and was released in 2013. On October 5, 2015, he stormed a Maddhya Badda house and hacked a spiritual leader (pir) dead. He was arrested nine days later.

Police on Wednesday said they suspect the Mourning Day bomber, Saiful Islam, 21, had other co-conspirators who had planned to bomb the procession leading up to the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum on National Mourning Day.

Dhaka: Militant outfit Neo-JMB may have changed its target of attacks in order to attract attention, counter-terrorism officials apprehend.
The group may now carry out terrorist attacks at crowded public places rather than attacking members of other religions and foreign nationals.
“Neo-JMB is desperate to launch a massive attack in the county,” an official engaged in counter-terrorism operations said.
