B’desh: BNP leaders enter jail to meet Khaleda

report in Prothom Alo, Apr 28, 2018 at 17:36 hrs
Amid physicians concern over her health condition, three senior BNP leaders, led by party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, entered the jail to meet their party chairperson Khaleda Zia.

Fakhrul together with BNP standing committee members Mirza Abbas and Nazrul Islam Khan reached the jail gate around 3:30pm on Saturday.

Around 20 minutes later, jail authorities took them inside the jail.

Earlier on 19 April, the three BNP leaders failed to meet Khaleda as she could not come down to the ground floor due to pain in her knees.

Earlier in the day, three personal physicians of the BNP chief feared that she may be crippled and lose her eyesight if she is not given proper treatment immediately in any specialised hospital.

Fakhrul said their critically ill chairperson cannot be taken to a specialised hospital for better treatment as a file in this regard remains stuck at the prime minister’s office.

Fakhrul last met Khaleda on 6 April and the BNP chief was taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University the following day for some medical tests.

On 8 February, Khaleda Zia was sent to the abandoned central jail on Nazimuddin Road after a special court sentenced her to five years rigorous imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.http://en.prothomalo.com/bangladesh/news/174794/BNP-leaders-enter-jail-to-meet-Khaleda
