report in Prothom Alo, May 2, 2018 at: 21:43hrs Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday said no political party of the country would accept announcement of the polls schedule before a solution to the poll-time government.
At a press conference on delimitation of parliamentary seats at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon on Monday, election commissioner Md Rafiqul Islam said the schedule for 11th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election will be announced in the coming October.
After paying homage to the BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman at his grave in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital marking 39th founding anniversary of BNP’s labour wing Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, Fakhrul was talking to newsmen.
“The main crisis is: we want a neutral poll-time government. There should be a political solution to the issue first. All political parties should reach a consensus on the matter. But the government is refusing this all along,” said Fakhrul.
He claimed that the ruling Bangladesh Awami League will face a debacle if the elections are held in a free and fair manner.
“That’s why they [AL] have reconstituted the election commission unilaterally to forcibly cling to power. They want that election commission to hold a perfunctory election [to ensure their return to power], but people will never accept this.”
Calling on the people to be united, the BNP leader said there is no alternative to forge a strong street campaign to oust the AL government.
About the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies, Fakhrul said the election commission re-demarcated the parliamentary constituencies as per the wish of the Awami League. http://en.prothomalo.com/bangladesh/news/174975/‘No-one-will-accept-schedule-before-solution-to
