Suspected militants fire shots at RAB from hideout in Ashulia

Report on bdnews24.com, July 16, 2017
A team of the Rapid Action Battalion has come under fire from inside a house suspected to be a militant hideout at Ashulia in Savar.

The shots were fired after the law enforcers surrounded the house at Chourabali neighbourhood in Noyarhat on the outskirts of capital Dhaka around 1am on Sunday.

“The suspected militants fired at least five shots at the RAB personnel,” RAB-4 Commanding Officer Additional DIG Lutful Kabir, who was heading the operation, told bdnews24.com over the phone from the scene.

He said the suspects were using abusive language to address the law enforcers.

At around 4am, the RAB official said, “We will strengthen the operation after sunrise with reinforcements.”

He said the RAB used microphones asking the suspects to surrender, but there was no response.

The residents of the area were being evacuated, Ashulia Police Station OC Abdul Awal told bdnews24.com around 3am.

The tin-roofed house under siege is owned by one ‘Ibrahim’, he said and added that a police team was also going to the site. http://bdnews24.com/bangladesh/2017/07/16/suspected-militants-fire-shots-at-rab-from-hideout-in-ashulia
