Report on bdnews24.com, Sept 25, 2017
A court in Dhaka has granted police one day to grill seven pro-Jamaat-e-Islami doctors, who have been arrested on charges of planning violent anti-government activities.
The seven doctors are Anwarul Azim, 55, Mohammad Ali Ashraf Khan, 55, Mohammad Towhid Ali Beruni, 42, Zahir Uddin Mahmud, 56, Mohammad Saiful Amin, 54, Sahabuddin Ahmed Chowdhury, 59, and Mohammad Fazlur Rahman Mazumder, 59.

Police arrested them from a meeting at Euro-Bangla Heart Hospital in the capital’s Lalmatia on Saturday and produced before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Sunday.

Judge SM Masud rejected their pleas for bail, Court Police’s General Recording Officer Sub-Inspector Nizam Uddin told bdnews24.com.

Mohammadpur Police Station Inspector Mohammad Shariful Islam is investigating the case against the seven doctors under the Special Powers Act.

He said eight to 10 other doctors, including Kamrul Ahsan, fled when police raided the hospital, a sister concern of drug-maker Biopharma.

Doctor Azim is Managing Director of Biopharma and the hospital while the others are directors of the hospital, the police officer said.

In the remand petition, he alleged the doctors met secretly to plan violent and destructive anti-government sabotage ahead of the upcoming parliamentary election’.

An employee of the hospital, requesting anonymity, said the doctors met to discuss a project. “It was not a political meeting,” he said.

Sub-Inspector Maruf Hossain, who started the case, said eight to 10 unidentified people were accused in the case.

No political document was found in the room where the doctors met, he added.http://bdnews24.com/politics/2017/09/25/seven-pro-jamaat-e-islami-doctors-face-police-grilling-over-violent-sabotage-plan
