PML-N largest party to contest GB polls: report in the News, May 17, 2015

ISLAMABAD: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has emerged as the largest party in the campaign for Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) elections as it has fielded candidates for all seats in the contest.

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is runner-up with 16 while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on third position with 15 candidates so far. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who informally kicked-off the campaign last month by visiting Gilgit would visit the area immediate after the election next month to fulfil the commitments that he made with the people during his previous visit. Political Secretary to the PM Dr Syed Asif Saeed Kirmani who is coordinating PML-N candidates efforts pertaining to the campaign has announced the completion of distribution of tickets issued by the party president and prime minister.

In a brief chat with ‘The News’, he said the PML-N has designated most popular and strongest candidates on all 24 seats and he is hopeful that the party would return victorious in the polls as the people of GB have enormous faith in the leadership of Nawaz Sharif. The PML-N will depute its leaders to steer the election campaign for the GB elections next week and the government would ensure free and fair polls.

Kirmani maintained that the caretaker administration in the area is neutral and it is not siding with any party. The PML-N GB Chapter President, Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman and Secretary General Haji Akbar Taban will lead party’s campaign as both are contesting for the assembly berths. It is likely that the PPP, PTI and Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen will also contest the poll in a big way. The elections will be held on June 8. The PTI is holding its rally today at Ghazzar. Its leader Imran Khan and others will address it.http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-News-7-318536-PML-N-largest-party-to-contest-GB-polls
