PML-N for high-level commission on Kargil: The News, July 28

ISLAMABAD: The PML-N has demanded of President Asif Ali Zardari to constitute a high-level commission, headed by a judge of the Supreme Court, to hold an inquiry into the Kargil issue.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, PML-N leader Siddiqul Farooq said the inquiry commission should be directed to submit its report, along with its recommendations, within three months. In this connection, he also reminded Zardari of his commitment to hold accountable dictators, whether they were dead or alive.

The PML-N leader accused Pervez Musharraf of being an incompetent Army chief, because his misadventure of the Kargil war brought the subcontinent to the brink of a nuclear war. This, he said, also isolated Pakistan in the world community. “Pakistan’s friends like Saudi Arabia and China also had to request to Pakistan to stop the war and hold talks,” he said.

He said the then prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, had to go to Washington for negotiations to avert the nuclear war and save the lives of the Pakistani soldiers, who were trapped in Kargil. Farooq reiterated the demand of the PML-N for trial of Musharraf for violating the Constitution and starting the Kargil misadventure.

Answering a question, the PML-N leader said Nawaz Sharif had admitted his mistake of appointing Musharraf as the Army chief. Accountability of all the dictators, who breached and violated the Constitution, should start now, he added. http://www.thenews.com.pk/top_story_detail.asp?Id=23536
