Pakistan, Afghanistan discuss border issues: by Ahmad Nabi in The Nation, Aug 31, 2016

KHYBER AGENCY – A flag meeting between security officials of Pakistan and Afghanistan discussed on Tuesday matters relating to Pak-Afghan sharing border Torkham, said official sources.

The meeting was held in Frontier Corps (FC) compound at Torkham. Col Taufeeq and Assistant Political Agent (APA) Landikotal Rahim Mehsud represented Pakistan while Col Nisar of Afghan border police, gate commander Amin Jan and Afghan customs collector Shoaib joined talks from Afghanistan side.

The sources confirmed that the Pak officials raised three issues being faced by them and sought cooperation of their Afghan counterparts.

Pakistani security team asked for help from Afghan officials to bar illegal penetration of their citizens through Torkham border and not to tease Pakistani transporters on checkpoints when they deliver assignments in Afghanistan. Pakistan also asked Afghanistan to let start the reconstruction work on buildings at border damaged during clashes between Pakistan and Afghan forces at Torkham last month.

The Afghan officials expressed their reservations over the border and requested for setting of a timeframe for deportation of illegal Afghan nationals and for specifying time for Afghanistan-bound vehicles to avoid road blocking. They also called for relaxation of transporting a dead body of Afghan citizen to the country.

The meeting was held in friendly atmosphere and officials from both countries agreed to safeguard their mutual interests.

They also agreed to address the grievances faced by each other in the best interest of people of both countries.http://nation.com.pk/newspaper-picks/31-Aug-2016/pakistan-afghanistan-discuss-border-issues
