Lawmen sweep Mirpur ‘militant den,’ 3 burned bodies found

Report in The daily star, Sept 6, 2017
Lawmen have found three incinerated bodies after starting a sweep of the six-storey building on Mirpur’s Mazar Road, after a day of cordon that saw a series of big explosions and gunfire.

They are under the impression that the suspected militants might have killed themselves in the latest series of explosions last night that resulted in a big fire visible from far off areas.

Mufti Mahmud Khan, director of legal and media wing of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), told journalists they saw three incinerated bodies in a fourth floor room.

He did not elaborate, but said the bodies could not be recognised from a distance and the lawmen were trying to reach the room despite sweltering heat caused by yesterday’s blasts.

Rapid Action Battalion were sweeping through the inside of the building when last reported around 1:00pm, said Maj Abdullah Al Mehedi, deputy director (media) of the elite force.

Today’s operation resumed from 9:30am with bomb disposal units, dog squads and the assistance of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence, he told The Daily Star.

Fire service headquarters’ Duty Officer Mahfuzul Revan told The Daily Star that five units of fire fighters were spraying water and assisting in the operation.

The suspected militants were believed to have been residing on the fourth floor of the six-storey building. The total number of inhabitants of that flat was believed to be around seven.

Rab cordoned off the house following information about the suspect from two alleged members of Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), both detained from a house at Elenga in Kalihati upazila of Tangail late Monday night.http://www.thedailystar.net/city/operation-mirpur-militant-hideout-resumes-1458220
