ISLAMABAD: The interior ministry has cancelled the visa of a Korean national identified as Juan Won Seo, owner of the ARK Info Tech Institute in Quetta where two Chinese nationals had come to learn the Urdu language before they were abducted and allegedly executed by the militant Islamic State group.
According to sources, the North Korean national arrived in Pakistan on a business visa and opened an Urdu academy in Quetta.
They added that instead of engaging in any sort business activities after arriving in Pakistan, Lee Zing Yang and Meng Li Si went straight to Quetta on the pretext of learning the Urdu language from Mr Juan but started preaching Christianity instead.
A source claimed that Chinese nationals were preaching Christianity in the garb of learning Urdu from the Korean man and had been taken into custody by the police in Kharotabad. They had also been informed of the security threats and been offered a security cover. But they declined the offer.
Security and intelligence institutions are reviewing the incident given the information available and photographs of the abductees released on social media to reach a final conclusion.
Responding to a question regarding the interior ministry’s previous statements regarding their deaths, the source claimed that since the bodies of the two Chinese nationals had not been recovered they could not reach a conclusion. On May 24, gunmen dressed as policemen kidnapped the Chinese man and woman from Jinnah Town, Quetta. Another Chinese national escaped the abduction.
The IS claimed responsibility for the kidnapping and on June 8 released a video showing the murder, though government authorities kept denying the two had been killed.
