Illegally built structures near Taftan border removed

QUETTA: The local administration launched a special campaign against encroachments and profiteering in Taftan, a town at the Pakistan-Iran border, and the nearby town of Dalbandin on Sunday.

Encroachments erected near the border were demolished.

The government has built a market near the border in Taftan and allotted shops to traders. But the shopkeepers have raised encroachments in front of their shops, creating hurdle for visitors.

Taking notice of the situation, Balochistan Chief Secretary Saifullah Chattah ordered removal of the illegal structures.

“We have removed all encroachments in Taftan,” Kamran Kurd, an administration official, said. He added that no one would be allowed to erect encroachments again.

The local administration in Dalbandin, the district headquarters of Chagai, launched a similar campaign. Raids were conducted in different areas of the town and five shopkeepers arrested for overcharging the customers.
