Ghani-Noor’s Close Ties Met With Mixed Reaction by Karimullah Amini in TOLOnews.com,30 November 2016

President Ashraf Ghani and Atta Mohammad Noor have in recent weeks forged closer ties, a move that has been met with mixed reaction.

A serious rift emerged between the two during the last presidential election – after the results were announced. At the time, Noor said he did not accept Ghani as the then president-elect.

However, Noor reportedly hosted Ghani at his house in Mazar-e-Sharif city for one night this week.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that Noor has directly entered political discussions with Ghani.

“Politics is not standard in Afghanistan; it is based on giving and receiving,” political commentator Nadir Shah Bahr said.

“Not only Mr. Noor but other politicians should forge close ties with the government leadership in order to maintain and support the system,” said Mueen Marastiyal, a political analyst.

Reports indicate that it was Ghani’s first trip to Balkh since taking office in September 2014.

There were rumors however about the appointment Noor as governor of Balkh. However, the reports were not confirmed.

The Presidential Palace has however spoken of Noor as governor of Balkh in a number of its press statements to date.http://www.tolonews.com/en/afghanistan/28617-ghani-noors-close-ties-met-with-mixed-reaction
