Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani sent the names of Dr Shamma and Dr Shahzadi to the president on Sunday for selection of one of them for the post.

According to a handout, Dr Shamma met the prime minister on Monday and discussed matters pertaining to development of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The prime minister said: “The development of Gilgit-Baltistan is one of the priority areas for the government and all possible assistance will be extended to the provincial government in this regard.”

He said participation of all major parties of the country in the elections in the region held after it attained the status of a province last year had brought its people into the mainstream politics.

Mr Gilani said the Diamir-Bhasha dam would usher in an era of prosperity in the region and would benefit the entire country.

Dr Shamma said the status accorded to Gilgit-Baltistan had given an identity to its people who felt proud to be part of the country.
