Dam-affected people neglected in GB: Dawn, Aug 24, 2014

GILIGT: Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Diamer district chapter has demanded of the Gilgit-Baltistan government to ensure fair distribution of compensation among the affected people of Diamer-Bhasha Dam project as it claimed that deserving people had been neglected in the money disbarment process.

Talking to Dawn on Saturday, MQM district in-charge Haji Abdul Aziz said that a meeting held at Chilas on Friday demanded distribution of compensation on merit. He said that the workers and leaders of MQM were in attendance.

Mr Aziz accused the local administration of neglecting the real affected people of the dam project in the compensation, and claimed that millions of rupees had so far been paid to non-deserving people.

He claimed that MQM would not compromise on the rights of the dam affected people and said that the party’s central leadership had been informed about the irregularities in distribution of compensation. He warned that construction work on the project would be stopped if their demands were not met.Meanwhile, talking to reporters in Islamabad the other day, MQM MNA Syed Haider Abbas RIzvi had said that poor landowners affected by Diamer-Bhasha Dam had been awaiting compensation.
