Court seeks explanation on GBLA poll delay: report in Dawn Feb24, 2015

GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court on Monday gave a two-week deadline to the federal government and the GB caretaker government to submit their responses in two petitions seeking explanation about delaying the elections to the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly (GBLA).

A two-member bench comprising Justice Sahib Khan and Justice Wazir Shakeel heard the two separate petitions filed by Pakistan People`s Party leader Amjad Hussain and MWM`s Ehsan Ali.

The respondents in the case are GB Council chairman (Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif), federal minister for Kashmir affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, GB chief election commissioner and GB caretaker chief minister.

The petitions have also challenged appointment of caretaker chief minister, Sher Jahan Mir, and his 12-member cabinet, and urged the court to refrain the caretakers from functioning.

Meanwhile, GB chief election commissioner submitted his written response on Monday, informing the court that announcement of GBLA election date was the responsibility of the caretaker government. http://epaper.dawn.com/DetailImage.php?StoryImage=24_02_2015_007_007
