Karachi: Despite getting approval for zero duty under the generalised system of preferences (GSP) six years ago, Pakistani mangoes have failed to create a market share in the United States, a country that spends $0.5 billion on fruit imports.

WASHINGTON: The US government has announced sanctions against seven Pakistani entities allegedly associated with the country’s missile programme, says an official notification.
The notification by the US Department of Commerce said that the entities added to the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) list “have been determined by the US government to be acting contrary to the national security or foreign policy interests of the United States”.
All seven have been placed on the entity list under the destination of Pakistan. They are identified as:

ISLAMABAD – Chief of Air Staff (CAS) Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman has visited Air Base and aviation industrial complex in Moscow and monitored performance of modern fighter jet and other important military hardware.

Russian President Vladmir Putin has turned down Islamabad’s invitation to visit Pakistan and inaugurate a key pipeline project, a report carried by Indian news agency ANI said on Friday.

MOSCOW – Pakistan and Russia are in talks on sales of helicopters, air defence systems and modernised tanks, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif told Sputnik on Wednesday.

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has dismissed concerns surrounding provision of land for the proposed expansion of the US Embassy in Islamabad.
Deputy Attorney General Sohail Mahmood submitted a one- page reply in the Supreme Court this week on behalf of the interior ministry in reply to a petition, filed by Wattan Party representative Barrister Zafarullah, which objected to granting the US mission more land.

MOSCOW: The Russian Army’s Commander-in-Chief Oleg Salyukov on Friday announced that Russian ground forces will hold its first ever military exercises with Pakistan in the coming year, according to TASS news agency.
The Russian Army is scheduled to hold seven international drills in 2016, including the “the first ever Russian-Pakistani special drills in mountainous terrain.”
