The government is planning to hold the next general election on December next year.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith made the revelation while talking to reporters at the Secretariat after a meeting with his ministry officials.
“The way the Election Commission has been planning things, hopefully, the national election will be held by December next year. The Election Commission does not have much left to do, besides updating the voter list and redrawing boundaries of some areas.”
Financial Institution Division Senior Secretary Eunusur Rahman and Finance Department Senior Secretary Hedayetullah Al Mamun, among others, were also present by the minister’s side.
Muhith also said: “Though the election is almost knocking at the door, but you will not see any enthusiasm regarding election even in remote areas.”
“People are more concerned with Rohingya issue. We too are worried about this. We too are angry.”
The veteran minister also urged the international community to create “safe zones” inside Myanmarese territory to protect the Rohingyas.
He continued: “How a Nobel laureate like Aung San Suu Kyi approves of such persecution on the Rohingyas is beyond me. I find the steps so far she has taken abhorrent. We are seeking international cooperation to solve the Rohingya crisis, simultaneously, we are doing our best to maintain a good relationship with Myanmar.”http://www.dhakatribune.com/bangladesh/2017/09/04/bangladesh-may-go-polls-december-2018/
