‘Anti-militant’ raids in Gaibandha remote areas: report in Prothom Alo, July 5, 2017

Gaibandha: More than a hundred members of law enforcement agencies began ‘anti-militant’ raids in remote areas of Gaibandha’s Sadar upazila on Wednesday morning.

A joint team of counterterrorism unit members and local police began the raids in the Kamarjani and Mollachar of upazila, looking for suspected militant hideouts there.

Gainbandha Sadar upazila police station officer-in-charge Mehedi Hassan told Prothom Alo this morning that the raids were being conducted in search of militant hideouts.

He also said the raids were being conducted in some places suspected to be militant dens.

Neither a militant hideout nor any person was arrested in the raids till 9:00am in the morning, he added.

The law enforcers conducted several raids in the remote areas of Gainbandha’s Sadar, Fulchhari and Saghta areas last year. But, the law enforcers found nothing other than some locally-made arms.http://en.prothom-alo.com/bangladesh/news/152875/%E2%80%98Anti-militant%E2%80%99-raids-in-Gaibandha-remote-areas
