Flood ‘14: AJK losses put at Rs10 billion: The Express Tribune, October 17th, 2014

MUZAFFARABAD: Flash floods triggered by rain have damaged both public and private infrastructure worth Rs10 billion in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), officials said on Thursday.
Naeem Shiraz, a senior member of the Board of Revenue in AJK, and the State Disaster Management Authority secretary Akram Sohail said the Rs10 billion figure was realistic as compared with the exaggerated claims in the media reports.

“A five-member committee has been formed at the tehsil level to verify the real flood victims, and to ensure the transparency while distributing the compensation cheques among the flood victims,” said Shiraz.
Answering a question, Shiraz further said that 56 people were killed during the flood and landslides – 21 in Haveli, 14 in Sudhnoti , eight in Kotli, six in Rawalakot, three in Bhimber while two in each district Bagh and Mirpur.
Sohail said that 4,128 houses were damaged. Of these, 433 were made of concrete and 3,695 were made of mud, stone and wood in the remote areas. “Up to Rs100 million provided by the Sindh government for the flood victims will be distributed on merit. We will recheck the figures, as the World Bank will also verify the damage,” he said.
Initial reports and figures issued by the various government departments were more exaggerated than the on-ground damage.http://tribune.com.pk/story/776731/flood-14-ajk-losses-put-at-rs10-billion/
