Except merger, all Fata reforms acceptable: JUI report in Dawn, December 7th, 2016

CHARSADDA: The local JUI-F leaders on Tuesday said all Fata reforms except the proposed tribal region’s merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were acceptable to them.

They also said the reports of the Sartaj Aziz committee and KP governor on Fata reforms were ‘intolerable’. These views were expressed by JUI-F Fata chief Maulana Mufti Abdul Shakoor, general secretary Mufti Mohammad Ijaz and other leaders during the party workers’ convention at Darul Uloom Islamiya here.

The speakers said the future of Fata should be decided in line with the aspirations of local residents and that the party accepted all reforms including the status of a separate province for Fata but the tribal region’s proposed merger with KP was unacceptable.

They welcomed the proposed development package for Fata and proposed separation of the executive from judiciary in tribal areas.

The speakers said Fata people didn’t approve of the proposed merger of their region with KP and that the execution of that proposal would have harmful consequence for the tribal belt.

They said Fata should be declared a separate province instead of being merged with KP.

The speakers complained tribal people had no representation in reforms committee and that any decision imposed on tribesmen against their wishes would be strongly resisted.

They said the KP governor had visited eight Fata agencies where 98 per cent jirgas called for declaring Fata a separate province and didn’t support the region’s merger with KP. They demanded the holding of a referendum in Fata on reforms.http://www.dawn.com/news/1300974/except-merger-all-fata-reforms-acceptable-jui
