Finance ministry releases Rs100m for CPEC security: Reort in The Nation, August 22, 2016, 5:25 pm

Islamabad: Ministry of Finance has released Rs100 million for security of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, sources in the ministry said Monday.

The sources, declining to be named, said that CPEC security would cost a total of Rs526.6 million. Out of the total amount, they said, Rs100 million have been released by the government.

A Special Security Division (SSD) comprising 9,000 Pakistan Army soldiers and 6,000 paramilitary forces personnel has also been entrusted with the duty of f protecting Chinese workers and projects under CPEC.

Earlier on Monday, the federal government announced it would conduct aerial surveillance of the economic corridor project.

Surveillance of roads, railway tracks and gas pipelines will be carried out persistently and immediate response will be given in the event of any terror act. Drone will continue to conduct surveillance of the entire project round the clock.

The CPEC is a 3,000-kilometer network of roads, railways and pipelines to transport oil and gas from Gwadar Port to Kashgar city, northwestern China’s Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, China Daily reports.
