Explosions that killed at least five people and damaged or destroyed 83 homes in northern China last week were sparked by illegally stored explosives, state media reported.
Media reports had initially suggested that the blasts on Saturday in Baotou in Inner Mongolia, which also injured 25 people, were caused by a gas pipeline explosion.
The explosives were stored in a residential block in the city, the state-run news agency Xinhua reported, citing the local police.

Hours after the nearly five-day siege at a militant den in Sylhet ended on Tuesday evening, police said they tracked down three more terror hideouts — two in Sylhet’s neighbouring district Moulvibazar and one in Comilla.

New Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (New JMB) has adopted a new strategy of setting up its hideouts in Hindu-populated neighbourhoods across Bangladesh aiming to deceive law enforcement.
This trend was detected after several New JMB hideouts were found this month in Chittagong’s Sitakunda, Sylhet and Moulvibazar areas.

Comilla/Dhaka:  Law enforcers on Wednesday discovered a den of terrorists at south Bagmara village in Kotbari of Comilla Sadar south upazila, while two other suspected militant hideouts in Borohat and Nasirpur areas of Moulvibazar Sadar upazila had already been cordoned off the same day.

The militants at Atia Mahal were expert bomb makers and the Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) found in the Sylhet den were all homemade, investigators have said.
The detonators of the IEDs were assembled in various militant hideouts in Sitakunda of Chittagong and then brought to the Sylhet den. The Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crimes (CTTC) unit of police suspects that one of the four militants killed during the joint operation of security forces in Sylhet’s Shibbari could be Mainul Islam Musa, the alleged chief coordinator of New JMB.

Sirajganj: Vandals desecrated three idols of Hindu goddesses at two temples in Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj overnight on Monday.
The unidentified miscreants decapitated the idol at Baroari Kali Temple and vandalised a Kali idol and a Sarashwati idol at the Kalipada Sarker family temple in Khidra Joknala village of Bhangabari union of the upazila.
