MUZAFFARABAD: The Kashmiri leadership across the Line of Control (LoC) has pinned hope on the proposed meeting between the prime ministers of Pakistan and India, saying both the leaders should honour the wishes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

GILGIT, Sept 28: The Gilgit-Baltistan chief secretary Mohammad Yonus Dhaga has ordered an inquiry into the recruitments made in the local education department since 2008.
Relevant officials told Dawn on Saturday that there had been complaints that relatives of ministers and senior government officials were inducted through backdoor. They said that degrees of teachers would be verified to know whether proper procedures were followed in their appointments.

GILGIT, Sept 27 The chief of the Diamer jirga Qazi Inayatullah on Friday said the forum wouldn’t accept any pressure from any organisation or the government as it wasn’t on anybody’s payroll.

LAHORE, Sept 24: The National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) has awarded contract for Neelum-Jhelum transmission line to a contractor at a cost 89 per cent higher than the competing bidder and 60 per cent above the PC-I price which was approved only two weeks ago.
Officials say the decision has been taken under “political and administrative pressure.”
It is also in gross violation of rules and regulations set by the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) and the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) for such contracts.

GILGIT, Sept 24: Ten to 12 masked men on Tuesday kidnapped a policeman after tying another with rope at Sharote village, some 31 kilometers west of Gilgit here. Local police officials said a shepherd was reported missing on Sunday and his relatives lodged a report with the Sharote police station.
They said afterwards two police personnel were sent to look for the shepherd.

GILGIT: A regional religious organisation has called for the withdrawal of ‘Self Governance Order 2009’ in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), saying the order has blocked G-B’s representation in the parliament.
Under the G-B’s empowerment and self-governance order, its status was brought at par with that of a province with a chief minister and governor installed for the first time in the region’s history.
